but when the stock market went south, lane found himself out of a job, out of a girlfriend, out of a bank account, and out of touch with his life. in order to reclaim ownership of himself, lane decided to spend the summer in myrtle beach with his best friend, gray. finding himself thrust into the party scene of the vacation town, he believed that he was recapturing the happiness and youth that his quest for the american dream had stolen from him. but through a chance reconnection with old acquaintances, a road trip to oak mountain, alabama, and a final showdown with his conscience, lane realizes that his happiness may not exist in the most obvious of places.
